Traffic Signs Traffic signs tell you about traffic rules, hazards, where you are, how to get where you are going, and where certain services are located. The shapes and colors of these signs give clues about the types of information they provide. A. Shapes:  1) Octagon (8): Stop 1- The octagon (8 sided) shape always means stop. You must come to a complete stop at the sign, stop line, pedestrian crosswalk or curb.  2.
